How confident are you in your security posture?

It seems we face constant threats from viruses, hacks, data breaches and ransomware. Let’s take a minute to assess where we stand in protecting our vital information.

Who has access to your system?

Remote workers have become the norm in the past few years. Precautions need to be taken to make sure only authorized users are accessing your systems, user names and passwords are not enough. Remote access should be secured with a Virtual Private Network (VPN) or better yet Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA). This protects against lost or stolen credentials and verifies the remote user is authorized.

How confident are you in your backup?

Accidental deletion, hardware failure and ransomware encryption are risks that can be mitigated with a good backup. Backing up your Newton data is a vital part of your disaster recovery plan. Your backup strategy should ensure that your critical data is backed up regularly, copies kept separately from your server, and restore the data to test reliability.

How about security software?

Each computer in your office should be protected with Antivirus software. As new threats emerge regularly check to ensure that the license for your antivirus is up to date, it is receiving updates and scanning on a recurring schedule. Ideally, this should be a managed product that users are not able to sidestep.

Do you scan and filter your email?

Email has become a common means to attack and compromise your system. Proactively scanning your email can remove or quarantine malicious and unwanted emails.

Have you encrypted your data?

Encrypting your data keeps sensitive private information out of reach of unauthorized users. This should cover data at rest on your PC and server and the communication between your PC and server.
