Social media is king when it comes to capturing your audience’s attention, but how can your agency leverage this without hiring an entire marketing team? Can anyone say, “quick starter guide, please??” We will give you resources to some of the in-depth plans you can follow, but here is a more concise and easy to follow way to get you started.

What’s your goal in using social media?

Making a plan without a goal is like taking off on a road trip without a destination. Sure you might see some cool sites, but you’ll never arrive at your journey’s end. If you don’t know how you’re trying to use social media you won’t get your business to the place you want it to be.. Or worse, you’ll get lost in the deluge of targeted content. Neither option is preferable.

So sit down and assess your agency’s needs. Are you looking to build trust with your clients and the community around you? Would you like to increase your ROI in your marketing efforts? Are you trying to attract new prospects you wouldn’t be able to connect with otherwise? First, determine what your agency’s goal is and then you’ll be set to make more informed decisions regarding your social media.

How do you find your voice on social media?

Say you’re a theoretical physicist at a social gathering and you begin talking to a fiction writer. You’ve likely learned how to speak about your profession in a way that is digestible to someone outside of your field of expertise. On social media, people want to get a feel for who you are, but no one wants you to be the guy at the party who prattles on about the intricacies of quantum mechanics.

You are the expert in your area and with your clients. You know more than anyone what your community needs, what your clients are asking for, and the challenges they face. We aren’t saying to pretend you are the most hip of all the youths if that’s not your personal demographic, but do be mindful of who you’re talking to and how they will understand what you say.

Mindfully taking notes of the details you do know about your clientele should get you off and running If you are interested in taking a deeper dive into the details of your customer base, you can use this guide to make a client persona.

What social media platform is best for your agency?

Although it would be wise to establish your agency’s brand across any social platform there is, it is not necessary to keep up with all of them. After determining your goals and the customers you’re aiming at, you’ll see that not all social media platforms are created equal. Each social media platform has its own purpose and abilities, so start by choosing wisely.

For example, here are some highlights on age demographics for each social media platform. You can sift through more of this data for an in depth view on these statistics:

Facebook

  • Largest age group: 25-34
  • Seeing an influx of boomers with high engagement
  • Still the most used and engaged with social media platform

LinkedIn

  • Largest age group: 46-55
  • Millennials are a quarter of the total users
  • Top social media network for lead generation
  • Great for B2B marketers targeting a motivated audience

Twitter

  • Largest age group: 30-49
  • Has a consistent user base and growth from year to year
  • Great for gathering quick news and driving discussions

Instagram

  • Largest age group: 25-34
  • Shows continued user growth, currently second largest platform
  • Great for leveraging influencer’s audiences and promoting shopping

Where to start with content creation?

With all of this in mind, jot down some of the most commonly asked questions you get from customers. What about from prospects? People who have never heard of your company? Next add to that list any local needs of your clientele? Of your community?

Answer these questions with your posts. Your task, should you choose to accept it, is to create content or to engage in concise and intelligible ways that answer your audiences needs. Choose one of the above and get started. Don’t forget to add an image or video to attract more attention to your post.
